For all of the skepticism about the DC Extended Universe, it certainly seems like DC Comics is taking the appropriate steps to fix it. Along with the previous two trailers, the new Wonder Woman origins trailer looks like a huge step up from Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.
While we’ve analyzed DC’s recent failures to death, Wonder Woman could actually be the film to get them back on track. One of the biggest problems with DC has been their urge to rush new heroes into these mashup films. We haven’t been properly introduced to Ben Affleck’s Batman. There haven’t been solo Aquaman or Cyborg films. This Wonder Woman origins film should be able to indicate the DCEU as a potential success story or a flop.
The trailer focuses solely on the creation of the character and how she came to be. As many of you know, this is exactly how Marvel built their superhero universe. Before The Avengers, there were solo films introducing the heroes. Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk all came before their first mashup. Make no doubt about it, the DCEU needs Wonder Woman to be a hit or they may have to blow up their universe and start from scratch.
Wonder Woman opens on June 2nd. The film stars Gal Gadot in the title role along with Chris Pine, Robin Wright, Connie Nielsen, and Danny Huston. Check out the new trailer and comment below.
