We’re about to get into the thick of the summer blockbuster season and many of the films we’ve talked about for the past few months are nearly here. Among them are one of the more seemingly forgotten films in War for the Planet of the Apes. Today marks the release of its third and final trailer before its July release.
While both of the previous trailers have been pretty dark in tone, this one lightens up a bit. The subject matter is still heavy with the inevitable war between humans and apes at the forefront. Yet, this trailer doesn’t seem as dark with moments like the apes taking in a young girl, a somewhat respectful dialogue from the villainous Colonel (Woody Harrelson) towards, presumably, Caesar (Andy Serkis), and The Stooges song, “Search and Destroy,” set as a backdrop in the trailer. Obviously, there’s enough gunfire and explosions to around as well but the trailer isn’t quite as grim as previous ones.
Either way, this film is shaping up to be a hit this summer. With other big time franchises like Guardians of the Galaxy, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Spider-Man eating up most of the summer hype, War for the Planet of the Apes has taken no missteps thus far in its promotion. It easily has the potential to be the best of the series. Even if it’s remotely on par with its two predecessors, Rise and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, it will round out a ridiculously solid trilogy of films.
War for the Planet of the Apes opens in theaters on July 14th. Check out the final trailer and comment below.
