Yikes. Back in December, we expressed our concerns with this reboot and the second trailer for The Mummy only legitimizes them.
The first trailer for the film focused on a bunch of crummy special effects and nonstop action. This new one starts out by actually focusing a little on the story. It seems that our titular mummy has some kind of unknown purpose for Tom Cruise’s character after allowing him to survive a plane crash. Though, the story is quickly thrown to the wayside as the action begins.
Once again, the effects are ugly and excessive. For some reason, filmmakers haven’t caught on that these over-the-top action scenes do not make for better movies. Just look at the Transformers series if you need proof. On the other hand, the John Wick series is how more action films should be made. Those films rely on the actors to make the action and not a computer and they’re wonderful for that reason. As it stands, The Mummy looks like straight garbage. Obviously, things could change by the time the film releases but that remains to be seen.
The Mummy opens in theaters on June 9th. The film stars Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Russell Crowe, and Sofia Boutella. Check out the awful new trailer and comment below.
