With all of the serious dramas released every year, it’s sometimes refreshing to see one so bright and quirky. This certainly appears to be the case with the upcoming Howard Hughes biopic, Rules Don’t Apply.
Of course, this isn’t the first biopic on Hughes. Martin Scorsese’s film, The Aviator, picked up 11 Academy Award nominations after its release in 2004. However, Rules Don’t Apply has been 40 years in the making for Beatty who has tried off and on since the early 70’s to get a Hughes project off the ground.
79 year old Warren Beatty writes, directs, and stars as the eccentric Hughes in the film. He is joined by upcoming stars, Lily Collins and Alden Ehrenreich, as two employees of Hughes who have a budding, yet forbidden, romance.
The trailer is quirky, colorful, and star studded beyond the three leads. The rest of the cast includes big names like Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Matthew Broderick, and Martin Sheen. The film truly seems like a passion project for Beatty and he’s going all in with this cast of heavy hitters.
Rules Don’t Apply is set for release in time for Thanksgiving on November 23rd. Check out the trailer and comment below.
