Usually when the surname “Scott” is attached to a film, it’s understandable to be a bit leery. Ridley Scott is by far one of the most overrated directors. He has some great films on his resume (i.e. Blade Runner, Gladiator, and The Martian) but he has some absolute dreck on there too like Hannibal and Robin Hood. With the upcoming science fiction thriller, Morgan, Ridley’s son, Luke Scott, will get a chance to show off his skills in feature directorial debut while the elder Scott produces.
Since this is only the teaser trailer for the film, details of the plot have not been fully fleshed out. Kate Mara stars as a risk management consultant sent to evaluate Morgan, a hooded artificial being, after some kind of accident in a laboratory. From the look of the trailer, it can be assumed that it is some sort of violent accident that sets the story into motion.
At first glance, Morgan is quite reminiscent of 2015’s Ex Machina. Both feature an artificial “human” but while Ex Machina is more a sci-fi love story, Morgan takes the horror approach to the subject matter. Regardless, the trailer does a great job of building tension and it really makes you want to see more. Morgan’s face is never seen which is also a nice touch that hopefully the filmmakers keep under wraps until the movie actually comes out.
In addition to Mara, Anya Taylor-Joy, Toby Jones, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Paul Giamatti also star in the film. Morgan is set for release on September 2nd, 2016. Check out the trailer and comment below.
