Back in August, we said, “we definitely aren’t going to miss this one,” after realizing we missed the first teaser for Damien Chazelle’s La La Land. Today, we can say the same about the first full length trailer for the film.
Chazelle wrote and directed 2014’s Whiplash which got him an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. La La Land could most certainly net him some more nominations at the next Academy Awards in 2017. The film has been generating buzz and with good reason. It looks excellent in these early previews.
Since we’ve already touched on the plot, as well as other noteworthy aspects of the film, in our last post, we’ll keep this short. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone star as a jazz pianist and an aspiring actress who fall for each other. In the trailer, it appears that they both have difficulties achieving their goals. Their onscreen chemistry is one of the first things to jump out as we finally hear dialogue instead of just music. The film seems to have a magical type of feel to it. The colors and the spectacle of the dance sequences are ridiculously pleasing to the eye.
This is also the first time there are some bigger, choreographed dance numbers shown. Along with that are more energetic songs. Basically, the full length trailer amplified what was so great about the previous teasers. As we near the release date, it’s becoming more of a certainty that La La Land could be a sneaky, sleeper hit this December.
La La Land opens on December 16th. Check out the new trailer and comment below.
