Is it already that time where we’re thinking about summer blockbuster season too? Guess so. It was no secret that the massive success of 2015’s Jurassic World was going to spawn a sequel. Therefore, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is on the way this summer.
Four years have passed since the theme park/resort, Jurassic World, was destroyed on Isla Nublar. Since then, the dinosaurs have roamed free on the island. Now, a volcanic eruption threatens their existence and former park manager, Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), enlists the help of former dinosaur trainer, Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), to rescue them.
While this is all well and good, there’s something unappealing about this first trailer. In typical summer blockbuster fashion, it has that “end-of-the-world” feel. Not every single film needs to resort to this tired plotline. Throughout the trailer, we get to see explosions, CGI dinosaurs, and Chris Pratt being… well, Chris Pratt. We do also get to see Jeff Goldblum return to the series as Ian Malcolm.
The reason the original Jurassic Park was so good, and still holds up today, was because the special effects were absolutely superb and groundbreaking for the time. In this first trailer for Fallen Kingdom, it’s easy to see that CGI has become the norm as opposed to the animatronics from the original. All that being said, the film will probably be fine and enjoyable. Chris Pratt is a good leading man and the supporting cast is sound as well. Again though, it just seems a bit run of the mill at first glance.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom opens in theaters on June 22nd, 2018. Check out the trailer and comment below.
