A trailer has been released for the new Godzilla film that has nothing to do with the most recent one.
Well, this is definitely confusing now, isn’t it? Toho, the Japanese production company, is set to release Godzilla Resurgence later this year. However, it appears that this new film will have nothing to do with 2014’s film which starred Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen.
Toho released the very first Godzilla film back in 1954 and they have not released a new installment of the series since 2004. The 2014 film was distributed by Toho only in Japan. Apparently, Toho is looking to reboot the series on their own after the success of Legendary Pictures’ version.
There really isn’t much plot revealed in the trailer and if you check out the basic plot outline on IMDb, it reads, “Japan is plunged into chaos upon the appearance of a giant monster.” Yep… That’s pretty much the trailer. If you’re going to be in Japan this summer, you can check out Godzilla Resurgence on July 29th, 2016. There’s no current word on an American release date. Check out the trailer below.
