Every time a new Christopher Nolan movie readies for release, it’s an event. Starting all the way back with The Dark Knight, Nolan has latched onto the same promotional formula. Announce the film title, announce the cast, and then release a ridiculously short teaser trailer. That’s where we’re at so far with his next film, Dunkirk.
The World War II drama will take place during The Battle of Dunkirk where over 330,000 Allied troops were evacuated following a Halt Order from the Germans who were closing in on their enemies. While there are certainly plenty of World War II films out there, there hasn’t been much on this particular battle. There was a 1958 film of the same name starring John Mills and Richard Attenborough.
Nolan’s version could potentially wind up being the gold standard on the subject like other big time war epics before it. He has proven himself a visionary filmmaker in the past and there’s always plenty of reason to get hyped for his work. He does have his shortcomings but Dunkirk should be a little less exposition-heavy than something like Inception or Interstellar.
Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh are set to star in the film. Another star of the film is Harry Styles from One Direction which sounds absolutely absurd. Though, this is the same director who cast Heath Ledger as The Joker. If Nolan is alright with Styles, we should all have faith in the casting choice.
There isn’t a whole lot to say about Dunkirk as the teaser is quite brief and doesn’t show much. However, one thing is for certain, it’s always worth getting excited for a new Christopher Nolan movie. Check out the trailer and comment below.
