Marvel releases the first teaser trailer for another superhero that we don’t know but will soon love.
Spring 2016 has been outrageous in terms of superhero movie trailers and releases and it’s not over yet. The teaser trailer for Doctor Strange (not this one) was released earlier today. Doctor Strange is the first new superhero introduced in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second film to be released in the cycle after Captain America: Civil War.
For those of you not familiar with the character, Dr. Stephen Strange is an arrogant surgeon whose hands are destroyed in an accident. He becomes an apprentice of The Ancient One and learns to combat evil using sorcery. In the film, Strange is being played by Benedict Cumberbatch who has been on quite a roll in the past few years with his performances in Black Mass, The Imitation Game (which nabbed him an Academy Award nomination) and 12 Years a Slave. Rounding out the cast are Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One.
Perhaps the most unusual choice for Doctor Strange is Scott Derrickson as director. Derrickson has mostly been involved with lower budget horror films (Hellraiser: Inferno anyone?) over the course of his career so it will be interesting to see what he does with this film. From the look of the trailer, the cinematography is quite pretty. There is a Christopher Nolan-esque feel to it and there is one shot that looks like it could have been taken straight from Inception. Doctor Strange is set for release on November 4th, 2016. Check out the trailer and leave your comments below.
