Despite originally being released in Italy back in November 2014, Clown is finally going to be getting a US limited and video-on-demand release in June.
The director of Marvel’s upcoming Spider-man: Homecoming, Jon Watts, directs the film with Eli Roth producing. With the explosion of horror movies in recent years and the vast quantities of them on Netflix, it’s surprising that it has taken so long for this film to hit the US market. It actually looks pretty interesting/creepy.
The film stars Andy Powers as Kent, a father who dresses up as a clown for his son’s birthday party. Unfortunately for him, the clown costume attaches itself to him and turns him into a serial killer.
The beginning of the trailer makes the film seem a bit like the Kevin Smith-produced Vulgar. In that film, a down-on-his-luck children’s birthday party clown gets sexually assaulted by three men. It’s a bizarre, low budget film but it is extremely unnerving which is the same type of feeling that this film’s trailer evokes. The latter half of it embraces more of a strict horror movie feel though.
Even though we’re getting it a bit late, Clown definitely looks like a film that will be worth checking out. It looks dramatic, disturbing, and relatively well made. Come June 17th, we’ll be able to decide for ourselves. Check out the trailer and comment below.
Looks a bit creepy and disturbing, but Id watch it for those reasons alone.
