The first trailer for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Cell gets released.
Surprise, surprise. Another Stephen King novel gets a feature film adaptation. Cell was released in 2006 and is a zombie apocalypse story. This is all fine and dandy except for that it feels a few years too late. Zombies have been on the rise for years now with other onscreen interpretations like The Walking Dead, Z Nation, iZombie, World War Z, etc. It’s safe to say that we have reached critical mass with zombies.
That being said, nine times out of ten, Stephen King movies are at least worth watching and the good news is that he actually helped write the screenplay. If nothing else, it should at least be faithful to the book which has had overall positive reviews. Also, John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are starring (along with their respective hats apparently) and they are both well respected quality actors.
Although the zombie thing has been done to death as of late, Cell should be a worthy film to see based on the merit of its components. It might not do anything particularly new but at the very least there should be some things to like. Then again, you could always look out your window to see people becoming zombies from using their cell phones.
Cell is being directed by Tod Williams (Paranormal Activity 2) and is set for release on July 8th. Check out the trailer and comment below.
