While we’re in the middle of the summer blockbuster season, hype is already starting to build for fall. One of our most anticipated films of the year just got a new trailer ahead of its October release. Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 science fiction classic, is shaping up to be quite an experience.
With this new trailer, we’re introduced to more of the story behind 2049. Officer K (Ryan Gosling) discovers a secret that has the potential to destroy society. He seeks out former blade runner, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), who has been in hiding for 30 years. Meanwhile, villain Neander Wallace (Jared Leto) is creating replicants, or synthetic beings, to be the future of society.
From the look of the trailer, the film seems a lot like this year’s Ghost in the Shell which, stylistically, stole elements from the original Blade Runner. Though, 2049 feels like it will succeed where Ghost in the Shell sort of floundered. With Denis Villeneuve in the director’s chair, anticipation is sky high as he comes off the success of last year’s Arrival. It’s great to see Harrison Ford return to the role of Deckard and the cast around him is also fantastic. Overall, the film looks great thus far.
Blade Runner 2049 opens in theaters on October 6th. Check out the new trailer and comment below.
