Netflix simply refuses to let up on its original content. From Stranger Things and The Get Down to Tallulah and XOXO, they have been relentless with their film and television releases. On September 16th, they release their newest original film, ARQ.
The plot of ARQ sounds like a mixture of Groundhog Day and science fiction films like Blade Runner or Minority Report. A couple, played by Robbie Amell and Rachael Taylor, get stuck in a time loop in a lab. Amell awakes at 6:16 AM every day only to be kidnapped and killed. Yet, he still consistently reawakens at 6:16 AM following his death. Apparently it has something to do with the mysterious ARQ shown in the trailer.
While not much is shown other than the reoccurring events, it’s certainly an interesting concept. Thus far, Netflix has been relatively consistent in the quality of their product. If nothing else, this film should at least intrigue fans of the science fiction genre. After all, as long as you have a Netflix account, it can’t hurt to give the film a shot.
The cast is full of relative unknowns with Amell and Taylor appearing mostly in television shows. Regardless, the concept and track record of the online distributor should be taken into account here.
