Back in April, we received the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Tonight, the first full length trailer for the film was released during the 2016 Summer Olympics coverage on NBC.
With the massive success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its upcoming sequel in 2017, it’s easy to forget that we’re still getting a new Star Wars film this year. After this trailer, though, the hype train should be pushing maximum capacity. This new trailer for Rogue One gives fans more of what they love. There are shots of star destroyers, AT-AT walkers, tie fighters, storm troopers, and, yes, even Darth Vader himself makes a quick appearance.
For anyone unfamiliar with the plot, Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is tasked with stealing the plans for the incomplete Death Star. This, of course, sets up the events of A New Hope. Either way, this feels like very good territory for a Star Wars expansion film to take place.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is slated for release on December 16th and is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla). Alongside Jones, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Riz Ahmed, Ben Mendelsohn, and Alan Tudyk are all set to have roles in the film. Check out the excellent new trailer and comment below.
