As has been the case for years now, Marvel has been knocking it out of the park with their cinematic universe. Back in 2014, they proved that big name heroes aren’t the only thing necessary for success. Guardians of the Galaxy was the highest grossing superhero film of that year and received widespread acclaim. Now, we have received a new teaser trailer for its upcoming sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The trailer features much of what people loved about the first film. Charismatic characters, appealing action scenes, catchy music, and a lot of offbeat humor. The characters are featured heavily throughout this first trailer with a lot of focus on the adorable Baby Groot. Kicking off with seemingly important dialogue about the fate of the universe resting on someone’s shoulders, we find out that Rocket is telling Baby Groot not to touch the “death button” on a remote. It’s a simple yet effective reintroduction to the tone of the Guardians characters. “Fox on the Run” by The Sweet being the backing track for most of the trailer is an effective reminder of the excellent soundtrack of the last film as well.
Like the last film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has an impressive ensemble cast. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper return as Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Groot, and Rocket respectively. Glenn Close, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, and Sean Gunn return to their roles from the first film as well. New additions to the cast include Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, and Tommy Flanagan. Writer/director James Gunn is also returning for the sequel.
If the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is to be trusted, the film could easily match its predecessor’s success. The film opens on May 5th, 2017. Check out the first trailer and comment below.
